Tijs Michiel Verwest is a famous Dutch DJ, known as Tiesto. Specialized magazines called him “the Greatest DJ of All Time” and “best DJ of the last 20 years”. Additionally, in 2014, he won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording.
Tiesto developed an interest in music at the age of 12. During his school years, he used to perform at parties. After that, he began professionally DJing, in various clubs. In 1994 he began releasing material and was soon discovered by Basic Beat. In 1997, Tiesto and his friend Arny Bink, founded their own label, Black Hole Recordings. Through his label, the DJ released the Magik series. Furthermore, his popularity increased after performing at the first ID&T Innercity party.
Next up, he began collaborating with another Dutch DJ, thus forming the trance duo Gouryella. Together, they experience massive success, reaching international charts. Shortly after, he released his first compilation, Summerbreeze, which peaked at number three on the Billboard dance chart. It included an iconic remix of Delerium‘s Silence, featuring Sarah McLachlan.
Following up on that success, Tiesto set a new musical trend of “ethereal female vocals” in combination with the electronic rhythm. Consequently, he released his debut album In My Memory (2001), becoming a veritable commercial artist. In 2007, Tiesto released Elements of Life, which added rock and pop music to his emblematic sound. It marked the DJ’s first Grammy nomination.
More recently, Tiesto collaborated with many huge names in the music industry. He spawned over 12 singles in 2015-2016. Most noteworthy, he collaborated with Martin Garrix on The Only Way Is Up and The Chainsmokers on Split [Only U]. Finally, his remix of John Legend’s All of Me earned him a Grammy Award. He is currently working on a new album, from which he released a promotional single, On My Way.
