Selena Gomez and the Scene were an electropop, pop-rock and dance music band. They formed in 2008 and released 3 commercially successful studio albums. Their most popular single is Love You like a Love Song, certified x4 Platinum.
Beginning – Kiss & Tell
In 2008 Gomez expressed her desire to sing, but not as a solo artist. Therefore, she created The Scene – an ironic reference to her “scene period”. Ulteriorly, she had to change the name into Selena Gomez & The Scene, due to the insistence of her label. One year later, they released a debut studio album, titled Kiss & Tell. The album was a mix of influences and received mixed reviews. Anyhow, it reached number 9 on the Billboard 200. Furthermore, it sold 500.000 copies. The lead single, Falling Down, peaked at number 82 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, Falling Down, was more successful, becoming their first top 40 hit and receiving a Platinum certification.
A Year Without Rain – When The Sun Goes Down
In 2010, the band released their second album, A Year Without Rain. The vocalist described the disc as “fun” and “powerful”. The record had a similar impact as its predecessor. It peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200. It spawned two moderately successful singles, Round & Round and the title track A Year Without Rain. In 2011, the band released their third and final album –When the Sun Goes Down. The composition featured important guest appearances such as Britney Spears, Katy Perry, and Rock Mafia. Additionally, it also reached number 4 on the Billboard 200. It spawned 3 singles. While two of them were only popular in the US, Love You Like a Love Song became the band’s most successful hit, being heaving broadcasted across the globe. In 2012, Selena Gomez announced that the band was on hiatus.
