Reminisce Mackie (née Smith), known by her stage name Remy Ma, is an American rapper known for her activity as a member of Fat Joe‘s Terror Squad. She appears on the crew’s hit Lean Back and on M.O.P.’s Ante Up (Remix). Additionally, she received exposure due to her conflict with popular rapper Nicki Minaj. She released one solo album, There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True Story. In 2016 she collaborated with Fat Joe on the album Plata O Plomo.
Terror Squad and Solo Album
Remy Ma had a struggling childhood, which made her seek shelter in songwriting. Her music career began in 1988 with the help of the late MC Big Pun. In 2004, the female rapper joined Terror Squad. Their single Lean Back was an immense success, topping the Billboard Hot 100. Consequently, Remy released a solo album,There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True Story. The album offered tree singles: Whuteva, Conceited and Feels So Good and sold very well.
Legal Issues and Recent Activity
In 2007, Remy was convicted of intentional assault after shooting a member of her entourage. The rapper female spent 7 years in prison. Her fiance tried to break her out on their wedding day. Eventually, they married while she was still convicted. In 2014 she finished her sentence and resumed her hip-hop career. In 2015 she joined VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop: New York. Moreover, the next year came with two Grammy nominations for her single All the Way Up. It’s the first single from the joint album Plata O Plomo. The name of the album is actually a quote from Pablo Escobar and refers to him trying to bribe the police, otherwise, he would kill them. Furthermore, Remy is working on another album, Seven Winters & Six Summers. Also, in 2017, Remy Ma released the Nicki Minaj diss song ShETHER.
