OneRepublic Biography

OneRepublic are an American rock band that currently consists of Ryan Tedder, Zach Filkins, Drew Brown, Brent Kutzle and Eddie Fisher.

MySpace Fame

OneRepublic was formed in 2002 by Ryan Tedder (lead vocalist) and Zach Filkins (guitarist). Their first name, Republic was changed into OneRepublic after the record company said it may be too controversial. After they recorded their debut album, the Columbia Records company dropped them. The band became really famous on MySpace though with help from their iconic hit “Apologize”. That drew attention to them and One Republic signed to Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group.

Going Gold

In 2007, they issued their debut album Dreaming Out Loud. It met with modest reviews, some even negative. They started getting recognition only after Timbaland helped them reinvent their single, “Apologize”.  Adding different instruments and striving for a slightly different tune, the song reached number one globally at some point and it was present on the Billboard Pop 100 chart for eight consecutive weeks.

Their follow-up albums, Waking Up (2009) and Native (2013) debuted at top places on the Billboard charts. Singles like “Secrets”, “Good Life” and “Counting Stars” were listened worldwide and peaked top positions on musical charts also. Their 4th album Oh My My was issued in 2016 and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200.

Achievements

OneRepublic have been nominated for Grammy Awards, World Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and more, having three awards in their pocket for now.
