Born Cristina Tanase in 1989, June raised to fame after her participation in the 50th edition of Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition.
June admits that her musical influences cover artists from Etta James and Natalie Cole to Regina Spektor and Alicia Keys. She started taking music lessons after graduating from the Bucharest University of Law. Her teacher advised her to focus more on jazz and study it more closely.
She received the “Special Jury Prize” trophy at the aforementioned festival. She performed the songs “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” inspired by Natalie Cole and a jazz version of the song “Pana cand nu te Iubeam”, originally Maria Tanase’s song.
Under her alias June, she issued the song “We Had Love” (2017) together with Monoir. He co-wrote the song along with Cristian Tarcea, who also produced it.
