Born Janet Damita Jo Jackson on May 16, 1966, she grew up in a musical environment. Five of her brothers were known as The Jackson Five. The brothers’ band issued songs like “I Want You Back”, “The Love You Save” and “ABC”.
TV Shows & Music Debut
Janet’s stardom began with roles in TV series like Good Times and A New Kind of Family. In 1982 she issued the debut album, Janet Jackson, with the help of her pop-star brother, Michael. Next for her was the album Dream Street (1984).
In 1986 Control saw the light of day. The album’s single “When I Think of You” hit No. 1 and won Janet two American Music Awards. The next two albums, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) and janet. (1993) were critically acclaimed.
After issuing 4 more albums, Discipline (2008) reached number one, helped by singles like “Feedback” and “Rock with U”. One year later after her success, Michael Jackson died and she spoke publicly about him at the 2009 BET Awards.
