William Kalubi, known professionally as Damso, is a Congo-born singer-songwriter and rapper from Belgium.

William Kalubi, known professionally as Damso, is a Congo-born singer-songwriter and rapper from Belgium. In 2006, he formed, along with his childhood friend Dolfa, the group OPG. They will later be joined by Rex, Ducke, and Lio Brown. As a solo artist, he became famous thanks to “Poséidon”, a song from French rapper’s Booba mixtape “OKLM”.
Early Life
Damso had to leave his birth country because of a military conflict, which he ulteriorly depicted in his songs “Graine de Sablier”, ” Exutoire” and “Bruxelles Vie”. He moved to Belgium when he was only 9 years old. In 2006 he started a music duo called OPG. In 2014, he released his Damso self-produced and released his debut mixtape “La salle d’attente”.
Breakthrough
After his success wth the song “Poseidon” and his feature on Booba’s “Pinocchio”, Damso signed with Universal. In the summer of 2016, the Belgian artist’s debut album, “Batterie Faible”, came out and spawned five singles. Moreover, it received a gold certification. Damso released his second album one year later, in April, calling it “Ipséité“. The title is a psychological term which means “own identity” or “uniqueness”. Additionally, the rapper released two new singles, “N. J Respect” and “A. Nwaar Is The New Black“, both having reached over 2 million views on Youtube.
