Christina Grimmie was an American singer-songwriter and musician known for competing in the 6th season run of “The Voice”.
Early Life
Christina Victoria Grimmie was born on March 12, 1994, in Marlton, New Jersey to a Christian family. She started playing piano at age 10.
Beginnings
Christina first earned attention from her YouTube Chanel where she uploaded videos of herself singing a covering a variety of songs. As of April 2013, her channel had more than 375 million views and over 2 million subscribers. Due to her social media notoriety, she was able to open for artists like Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers. “Find Me” was her first EP, released in 2011, after which she moved to L.A. to further pursue a singing career. Grimmie then released the record “With Love” in 2013, followed by her participation on “The Voice” in 2014 where she finished 3rd place.
After “The Voice”
After the show, she was offered several label contract deals but opted for Island Records which later dropped her whilst working on her upcoming album. Christina persevered and released a second EP in 2016 called “Side A”. She was planning another EP called “Side B” and was working on another album.
Tragic Death
On June 10, 2016, she was shot dead by a 27-year-old man while attending a meet and greet following a performance at the “The Plaza Live” in Orlando. Christina Victoria Grimmie was buried in a private ceremony in her hometown on June 16. Numerous fans and friends gathered the next day for a public ceremony.
