Carly Rae Jepsen Biography

Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian singer-songwriter and actress. She rose to fame in 2011, with her international massive single Call Me Maybe. The song topped the singles charts in 18 countries and became 2012’s highest-seller. The young artist sold over 20 million albums and won numerous awards, including three Juno Awards and a Billboard Music Awards.

Early Life & Career 

Carly was born in 1985, in British Columbia. During her school years, she studied musical theatre and appeared in various student productions. Furthermore, she pursued that passion at the  Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, British Columbia. Before becoming a professional artist, Carly had several minimum wage jobs.

In 2007, after learning to play the guitar, she auditioned for the fifth season of Canadian Idol and won the third place. Consequently, she was able to sigh with a manager and a record label. In 2008, she released her debut album, Tug of War, to a local, moderate success.

Breakthrough & Success

In 2011, Carly Rae Jepsen released her iconic hit Call Me Maybe. It was promoted by Justin Bieber through Twitter, and a lip-sync with Selena Gomez and Ashely Tisdale. Furthermore, Bieber’s manager signed Carly to Schoolboy and Interscope Records. The song spent 9 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 and gained the title of “Song of the Summer” from Billboard. Additionally, she collaborated with Owl City on the single Good Time. Later in 2012, she released her second album, Kiss. The album earned critical acclaim but didn’t get much recognition otherwise. In 2014, while working on her next album, Carly also starred in a Broadway production of Cinderella. In 2015, her album Emotion, peaking at number 20 in the US. Despite appearing in many publications, it was less successful than it’s predecessor.
