The juicy twelfth season of the American TV show The Voice, hosted by Carson Daly, just ended. After three exciting months of twists and turns, the winner has been revealed. The charismatic Chris Blue went home with a record deal and $100,000. His victory meant a victory for Alicia Keys, his coach, as well.
Besides Alicia, this season’s coach lineup included Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. Actually, the funniest moments of this edition include Adam and Blake teasing each other. Is this a music contest or a sitcom? Priceless! Shania Twain also made an appearance and guided to contestants. And let’s not forget the battle advisors: John Legend for Team Adam, Celine Dion for Team Gwen, DJ Khaled for Team Alicia, Luke Bryan for Team Blake.
Blue was followed by Lauren Duski (team Blake), the winner of the second place, Aliyah Moulden (team Blake), at third, and Jesse Larson (team Adam), occupying the fourth place. Furthermore, each of the runner-ups received a Toyota RAV4, much to the delight of the 15-year old Aliyah who screamed: “I can’t even drive!”
Highlights from the Finale:
The winner, Chris Blue’s choices:
Solo Song: “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson
Duet with coach: “Diamonds and Pearls” by Prince and the New Power Generation
Original Song: “Money on You”
All finalists and older contestants two have been paired with consecrated singers and have performed duets. Yey, everyone was somehow a winner!
Here’s what the lucky four sang:
Usher and Chris Blue – “Everybody Hurts”
If this isn’t a match made in Heaven, we don’t know what is!
Little Big Town and Lauren Duski – “Better Man”
Alessia Cara and Aliyah Moulden – “Scars to Your Beautiful”
Cee Lo Green and Jesse Larson – “Shining Star”
Numerous musical giants have performed as guests. The list includes Rascal Flatts, Cee Lo Green, Gwen Stefani, Alessia Cara, Chris Stapleton, Miley Cyrus, and Jennifer Hudson. Needless to say, all moments were groundbreaking and full of emotion. From Miley dedicating her song to Ariana Grande and Manchester, to the overwhelmingly powerful performance of Jennifer Hudson, we couldn’t take our eye away from the screen.
Who is Chris Blue?
Chris is a gospel, soul, R&B and hip-hop singer from Arizona. He was born in 1989 and moved to Knoxville, Tennesse with his family, at the age of 10. He began his music career by singing in church, as a child and then, Chris moved onto blues, forming a group named Blue Brothers. The young artist won a local competition and began touring.
For the past six years, he has worked as a worship leader. He entered The Voice 2017 with the song “The Tracks of My Tears” from The Miracles. Actually, before showing off his stunning voice in front of the coaches, he was very unlikely to even make it into the show and Alicia was the only one with an open spot left.
Chris stated that the most awesome moment from the entire contest was when his coach, Alicia Keys shouted: “My team is full!“. During the show, he performed songs by the likes of Al Green, Bruno Mars and Rihanna. Now, four of his contest songs reached top 10 on iTunes, including his catchy original tune, “Money on You“.
By the way, he is taken. In 2016 Chris married Stephanie Dunkley, his longtime girlfriend. Aww… don’t feel *blue*.
“And when you think you’re not good enough, someone, somewhere does,” said Blue moments before being crowned. “Winning the show for Stephanie, my fiancée, would mean I didn’t give up on her.”
We know how important rooting for your favourite constant is. Are you happy with the outcome of season 12 of The Voice?
