The Los Angeles girls just released the audio for “Right Now’s” studio version. This song will be part of Something To Tell You, along with other 10 tracks. The Haim new album release date is no other than 7 July, so this summer you know what your iPods will rock.
Haim – A Family Bussiness
Este, Danielle and Alana Haim are the lovely sisters that formed the pop rock band we all love. They became accustomed to musical instruments since an early age, performing in Rockinhaim, the cover band their parents created. After individual or shared musical involvements they harnessed experience and formed the band Haim. Their first shows were met with almost no interest from people, with audiences in little numbers. Only after they opened for artists like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Kesha, the sisters released their EP Forever. After this EP, the band started collaborating with drummer Dash Hutton, mostly for live shows. Haim’s first full-length album was titled Days Are Gone and received critical acclaim. Metacritic rated it 79/100, the album debuting at number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. It spawned singles like “Forever” and “My Song 5”. The latter’s success led to a re-recording of the song, but this time featuring the rapper A$AP Ferg.
Right Now – Live and Studio Recordings
Four years apart from their debut album Days Are Gone, the Haim sisters released a live studio version of the “Right Now” song on 27 April 2017. The lyrics tell the story of a failed romance in which the man’s trying to patch things up. Shouting his love and the fact that she needs her, it builds up into a tense situation where the vocals provide an imagery where the girl is pushed to reluctance. The drums just seem to get you closer and closer to this story and leave you breathless while the vocals play with your heart.
This new song also came with a new video. The real treat here is that the director is the skilled video artisan Paul Thomas Anderson. He directed There Will Be Blood, The Master, Radiohead’s “Daydreaming” and many more. Now Anderson used his experience in order to capture the emotion Haim puts in their music and he succeeded in creating a studio fairytale.
The pop rock band issued on 11 May the studio mixed and produced version of “Right Now”, only with an audio. The raw sounds from the live version have been coated in a production that makes the mood more dramatic. It still gives you goosebumps, but now those goosebumps make you feel smaller in front of this musical piece, while the live version makes you come closer and closer to the lyrical story.
“Want You Back”
In between these “Right Now” versions, Haim surprised their fanbase with the song “Want You Back”. It appeared on their Youtube channel on 3 May 2017. With summer vibes supported by Este Haim’s base, “Want You Back” takes you back 20 years ago to a pleasant, nostalgic feeling. On 13 May 2017, Haim performed live this song on Saturday Night Live. Their characteristic energy and style protruded from their voice to the public and fans and charmed everyone with their sound and synergy.
Stay tuned for the American pop rock nymphs’ new album Something To Tell You, issued through Columbia Records. There’s still new material to enjoy for a lifetime, that waits to be released. Be all ears and until then, listen to the versions of “Want You Back” and “Right Now” made available by now.
