Katorah Marrero, aka Young M.A, is a Brooklyn-based rapper and songwriter, best known for her hit “Ooouuu“, released in 2016, which peaked at number 19 on the Hot 100 chart.
Early Life & Career
Young M.A was born in 1992, in Brooklyn, New York. She is of Puerto Rican and Jamaican descent.She began rapping when she was only 9. She moved frequently during her childhood but, at the age of 16, she returned to Brooklyn. In 2014, she gained popularity online, after a post criticising her song “Brooklyn Chiraq” went viral and spawned new listeners. In 2015, she released “Body Bag”, a Youtube hit, and two mixtapes “M.A The Mixtape” and “Sleep Walkin'”. The latter was called a “thoughtful debut project” by MTV.
Breakthrough
In 2016, Young M.A’s debut single, “Ooouuu“, came out to massive success. Furthermore, it received several remixes with consecrated artists such as French Montana, Remy Ma and others. Additionally, she performed the single and a freestyle on a cypher at the BET Hip Hop Awards. In 2017, the female rapper released her debut EP, “Herstory“, and the single “Hot Sauce”.
