Yo Gotti Biography

Mario Mims, known professionally as Yo Gotti, is an American rapper. Since his debut in 1996, he released a total of 8 albums, 20 mixtapes and numerous popular singles. Additionally, he founded his own label, Collective Music Group.

Early Career & Breakthrough

Yo Gotti grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He developed an early interest in hip-hop music and began rapping at the age of 14, under the nickname Lil Yo. During the early part of his career, between 2000 and 2006, had an intense activity. First of all, he released a series of independent albums, From Da Dope Game 2 Da Rap Game (2000), Self-Explanatory (2001), Life (2003) and Back 2 da Basics (2006). Furthermore, in 2012 Gotti released his debut major studio album, Live From The Kitchen. It spawned 2 successful singles, 5 Star and Women Lie, Men Lie (featuring Lil Wayne). Both conquered the US Hot 100 and the R&B charts.

Fame & Success

Naturally, Gotti released his two most recent albums under his own label, CMG. In 2013 he released his next album, titled I Am. The first single, Act Right, was a chart sensation. Among others, it marked the rapper’s 3rd entry on the Billboard Hot 100. However, the next 2 singles, King Shit (with T.I) and Cold Blood, did not gain as much recognition. In early 2016, Yo Gotti released his latest album, The Art of Hustled. The album peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200. Most noteworthy, the lead single, Down in the DM made it to number 13 on the Hot 100 chart. It represents the rapper’s most successful single to date, achieving Platinum.
