Vince Staples Biography
Born Vincent Jamal Staples on 2 July 1993, Vince starting his career with small appearances on Odd Future members’ tracks. He’s from Long Beach, California.
Early Years
Staples had no intention of becoming a rapper at first. After collaborations with Odd Future, he issued his debut mixtape Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1 in 2011. The follow-up came one year later in the form of the mixtape Winter in Prague. Also in 2012, he got to know Mac Miller, who produced his mixtape Stolen Youth in 2013. Staples signed with the label Dej Jam Recordings soon after.
More Releases
Vince continued his Shyne Coldchain series, issuing the mixtape’s Vol. 2. It featured producing from Dilated Peoples’ members Evidence and DJ Babu. His debut album Summertime ’06 appeared in 2015, preceded by the EP Hell Can Wait. Evolving more and more, Staples issued the EP Prima Donna in 2016, featuring A$AP Rocky and Kilo Kish. He collaborated with Gorillaz for the long-awaited track “Ascension”. 2017 is here to see the release of its album Big Fish Theory, that currently encloses the singles “BagBak” and “Big Fish”.
