U2 Biography

U2 currently encloses the members Bono (lead vocals and guitar), the Edge (guitar, keyboards and backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion).

Early Years

The boys formed the band when they were still teenagers, in 1976. They adopted the name U2 in 1978. The band won a talent contest in Limerick and soon after, they signed with Island Records.

Their first album Boy (1980) was lead by the single “A Day Without Me”. The group issued October in 1981. Due to the misfortune of losing lots of their work in progress music work, recording for the second album was tough. October debuted at number 11 in the UK but failed to impress in any other country.

Legends

The international breakthrough was achieved in a small measure with the album War (1983). The single “New Year’s Day” peaked at number 53 in the US.

From the mid 80’s to the late 90’s, U2 issued albums like The Unforgettable Fire (1984), Rattle and Hum (1988), and Zooropa (1993). For Rattle and Hum the band collaborated with Dylan and B.B King. Johnny Cash sang the lead vocals on the Zooropa’s single, “The Wanderer”.

Trying to get back to their old sound, the band released their tenth album in 2000. All That You Can’t Leave Behind met with critical acclaim and reached number one in over 30 countries. The 2014 album Songs of Innocence is said to be their most personal work.
