Tyler, The Creator is an American rapper, record producer, and music video director who is the leader of the alternative hip-hop crew Odd Future.

Early Life

Tyler Gregory Okonma was born in Ladera Heights, California on March 6, 1991. Growing up with no father he was creative and passionate about music by age 7. Aged 14, Tyler taught himself how to play the piano.

Odd Future

In 2007, he started making music with Odd Future’s members Earl Sweatshirt, Left Brain, and Hodgy Beats. 4 years later, Odd Future’s unusual, and filthy material earned them a following. After directing his crew’s music video for the track French the group garnered millions of views thus drawing attention to Tyler’s own creations.

Sucess

Tyler released his own mixtape entitled Bastard, followed by a studio album called Goblin released in 2011. He was eventually signed to XL Recordings. While working on his next LP, Tyler engaged in various collaborations and won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards. He and his crew Odd Future created a TV show called Loiter Squad, where Tyler served as the director, actor and graphic artist. Domo23 was released as the lead single from his upcoming album Wolf. It was released on 2013, under Sony Music Entertainment with features from acts lie Frank Ocean and Pharell amongst others. The LP debuted at number 3 on Billboard 200 and was met with favorable critics review. He was one of the acts at the Coachella music festival and performed two songs from his soon to be released 4th album Cherry Bomb. It was revealed in 2015, under his own label this time with five different album covers. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Schoolboy Q were the big names featured on it. Tyler supported the album with a worldwide tour. He was unable to tour in the UK however, because of a ban caused by performances of earlier content. On April 2017 he was featured on Frank Ocean’s single Biking along with Jay Z.
