Travie McCoy Biography

Born Travis Lazarus McCoy on August 6, 1981, Travie took part in rap battles and played the drums while still in high school.

Gym Class Heroes

Together with his friend Matt McGinley, he founded Gym Class Heroes in 1997 and the bassist Ryan Geise joined soon enough.

Freshly signed to Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance Records, the band released their album As Cruel as School Children (2006).

The single “Cupid’s Chokehold” reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. The other singles “Clothes Off!!” and “Cookie Jar” took the 5th and 6th places on the same chart. Their next albums were entitled The Quilt (2008) and The Papercut Chronicles II (2011).

Going Solo

Travis changed his name into Travie and started his solo career in 2010. His first solo album Lazarus was released then. It enclosed the singles “Billionaire”, “Need You” and “We’ll Be Alright”. During his solo career, Travie McCoy collaborated with artists like Bruno Mars, Deuce (Hollywood Undead ex-singer), Adam Levine, Jason Mraz, Brendon Urie (Panic! at the Disco’s lead singer) and Rihanna.
