Tinashe is a contemporary R&B performer, as well as a songwriter, record producer, dancer, actress, and model.

Early Life

Tinashe Kachingwe was born in Lexington, Kentucky on February 6, 1993. From as early as 4 she started studying ballet, tap, and jazz, at 11 she moved with her family in Los Angeles, California. She was part of a dance company until 18.

“The Stunners” and Solo Career

She joined the girl group “The Stunners” in 2007 and the group was signed to Columbia Records six moths later. They eventually left Columbia in 2009 and signed a production deal with Lionsgate Entertainment. After the release of an EP and several TV appearances, they were signed to Universal Republic Records. They were announced as the opening act to Justin Bieber’s tour in 2010. In 2011 the group split before they could release their planned debut album. Tinashe’s first full project was revealed as the “In Case We Die” mixtape in 2012. The music video for one of her singles “Boss” was self-directed and co-written by her and Jt Ervin. She was signed to RCA Records and released her second mixtape “Reverie” received to mostly positive reviews. In 2013, Tinashe revealed her her third mixtape produced by Tinashe herself, amongst other collaborators. Her first major track was the single “2 On” off her upcoming debut album which peaked at number 24 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Her first studio album “Aquarius” was released in 2014 and debuted at number 17.

Independent and Successful Releases

Starting 2015, Tinashe released a mixtape “Amethyst” for free download. In the meantime, she directed and worked on several videos without any label support. She was planning to tour in support of the upcoming album “Joyride” but it was eventually canceled in 2016. Nonetheless, she continued working and released the lead single “Superlove” and its music video which reached one million videos in approximately two days, plus critical praise.
