The 1975 Biography

The British currently encloses the members Matthew Healy (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Adam Hann (lead guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass), and George Daniel (drums).

Early Years

The band members met while attending Wilmslow High School. They’ve  been playing together since 2002, but they had several names, like Bigsleep and Drive Like I Do. After they settled on The 1975 they issued their first EP Facedown (2012).

“Rock’n’roll is very cyclical”

Our main fear was feeling that we didn’t have the ability to capitalise on what we’d created“, says Matt for NME.

They gained huge recognition with the single “Sex” from the self-titled EP. In 2013 The 1975 released the EP IV with a new version of their iconic “The City” and tunes like ” Me” and “You”.

Also in 2013, the album The 1975 was issued and it went straight to No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. The follow-up album I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it (2016) contains the loved singles “UGH!”, “Love Me”, “Somebody Else”, and “The Sound”.

Wanting to create a modern, unique sound, Healy tried to describe their 2016 album: “I don’t know, ambient house, Sigur Ros meets Jon Hopkins?“.
