Stone Sour Biography

Stone Sour is an American alternative metal band created with former Slipknot members and scored hits like Through Glass and Say You’ll Haunt Me.

Early Formation

The beginnings of the band go back to vocalist Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root, members of Slipknot. Bassist Shawn Economaki and drummer Joel Ekman were also added to the line-up. They started out by recording and releasing demos.

Career Beginnings

As they shifted back and forth between Slipknot and Stone Dour the group entered a hiatus in 1997. Before they recorded their debut album, Economaki left and Josh Rand joined it. The self-eponymous album was released, entering spot 46 on Billboard. It was eventually nominated for 2 Grammy awards and was certified gold. After Stone Sour embarked on a tour,  Taylor and Root took a break and returned to Slipknot.

Success and Hiatus

In 2006 the band reunited and released the second album Come What(ever) May. It debuted at number 4 on Billboard 200 and spawned the hit single Through Glass. Ekman left the group during his time and was eventually replaced with drummer Roy Mayorga. The band supported the LP with a tour and released a live album called Live in Moscow, the following year. Taylor and Root shifted their attention again on Slipknot for an album and tour.

Comeback

In 2010, the band returned to focus on Stone Sour music and issued the third LP Audio Secrecy. The project saw the group mature as songwriters. They hit the road for a tour called, The Avalanche Tour. The next year they arrived with House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1 a first taste of a double album. In 2013 the second part was revealed as House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 2. Johny Chow joined as the new bassist and Root left Slipknot for good due to musical differences. In the following years, Stone Sour released several cover EPs followed by the upcoming sixth studio album Hydrograd in 2017, due for release in on June 20th.
