Son Lux Biography

Son Lux is an American trip hop trio consisting of Ryan Lott, Rafiq Bhatia, and Ian Chang. Ryan Lott is the initiator of the project, launched in 2007.  The latter two members joined in 2014.

Early Years

The group released their debut album, At War with Walls & Mazes, in 2008. It led to NPR naming them “Best New Artist”. In 2011, Son Lux’s second album, We are Rising, received critical acclaim. Consequence of Sound called it “the dark, operatic middle ground between Owen Pallett and In Rainbows-era Radiohead or Wild Beasts’ fantastic, operatic heights.”

Breakthrough & Success

Son Lux released their third album, Lanterns, in the fall of 2013. It featured a couple of the trio’s most popular songs, Easy and Alternate Worlds. Additionally, it peaked at number 15 on the Heatseekers chart. The lead single, Lost It To Trying, received massive praise from Pitchfork. In 2014, the band released the EP Alternate Worlds, which included a version of Easy featuring Lorde, and their fourth album, Sisyphus. The next year came with Son Lux’s latest album, Bones, which spawned another hit, You Don’t Know Me. In 2016, the group gave an astonishing performance, with Woodkid, at the  Montreux Jazz Festival. Most recently, their EP Remedy came out, in April 2017, containing political themes and generating an iconic single, Dangerous.
