Sean Lennon Biography

Sean Taro Ono Lennon is an American singer, songwriter and actor. He is the son of legendary John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Apart from his music career, Sean is a strong activist and is interested in spirituality and meditation.

Early Life & Career

Sean Lennon was born in New York, in 1975, on the same day as his father’s 35th birthday. His godfather is Elton John. He studied at private boarding school in Switzerland and he attended Columbia University. However, he shortly dropped out to pursue a music career. When he was a child, he received one of the first Mac computers ever produced, directly from Steve Jobs.

Musical Experiences

After years of practising and collaborating with his mother, Lennon managed to begin his independent music career by co-writing Lenny Kravitz’s song All I Ever Wanted (1991). Furthermore, he formed his own band IMA, again collaborating with Ono. Additionally, in 1988 he featured in Michael Jackson’s movie Moonwalker. Unlike his brother Julian who pursued mainstream pop music, Sean experimented a lot, taking elements from 90s artists.

His debut album, Into the Sun, came out in 1998 and had electric and bossa nova influences mixed into the alternative rock core. The album received positive reviews. Sean received massive media exposure after shocking the world with a declaration that his father was assassinated by the American government. After all the attention Sean received, his record peaked at number 153 on the Billboard 200.

His second album, Friendly Fire, inspired by a failed relationship, achieved pretty much the same amount of success, reaching 152 on the US Albums chart. The record included contributions from Honda, Ono, Money Mark, and Vincent Gallo. Moreover,  in 2009 he formed a musical duo with his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl, calling it Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Finally, he featured on Lana Del Rey’s Tomorrow Never Came, from her upcoming album Lust for Life.
