Schoolboy Q Biography

ScHoolboy Q is a hip hop artist and a member of the rap group Black Hippy along with Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and Kendrick Lamar.

Early Life

Quincy Matthew Hanley was born on October 26, 1986, in Wiesbaden, Germany, but was raised in California by his mother. He played a lot of football during his chidhood and teens. Hanley later joined a gang, became a drug dealer and was eventually arrested in 2007.

Career Beginnings

Fortunately for Hanley, music prevailed. He released his first mixtape entitled Schoolboy Turned Hustla and joined rap group Black Hippy with Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. Under the label Top Dawg Entertainment, he released Gangsta & Soul in 2009. Q’s 2011 debut album Setbacks was received to critical acclaim. Hanley’s success continued with the release of his second album Habits & Contradictions as it was one of the best hip-hop albums of the year.

Commercial Beginnings and Success

ScHoolboy Q changed labels and was now represented by Interscope Records. As a result, he was no longer an independent rapper. In 2012 he toured with rappers like Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, and Kendrick Lamar. He collaborated and performed with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on the track White Walls on the show The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Thanks to the success of Macklemore’s album “The Heist”, ScHoolboy Q got his first nomination for Album of the Year. The Grammy-nominated, Oxymoron albumwas revealed in early 2014. Following a successful collaboration with Kanye West on the 2016 single “That Part”, Q revealed that the name of his upcoming album will be Blank Face LP.
