Sam Cooke Biography

Sam Cooke was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. He is widely known as the King of Soul for his contribution to the genre and paving the way for artist such as Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, James Brown. On December 11, 1964, at the age of 33, Cooke was shot and killed, allegedly in self-defence, by Bertha Franklin, the manager of the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles, California.
