Robbie Williams Biography

Robbie  Williams is a Britsh singer, songwriter, and actor. He was a member of pop boy-band Take That but is mostly known for his solo career. After leaving the band, he released ten albums that reached number one in the UK charts. Additionally, six of these albums were ranked as the highest-selling in the history of UK. He also marked a Guinness Book of World Records entry in 2016, due to the enormous amount of sold tickets for one of his tours. In 2012 he reunited with TakeThat and the group appeared, in Forbes as the fifth best-selling stars in the world. Therefore, Robbie Williams has the gift of constantly reinventing himself and always appealing to his public. However, he is never without his eccentric and strong personality.

Take That

In the early 90s, Robbie Williams was only sixteen years old when he joined the iconic boy-band. Ever since the early days of his career, he was known as the extrovert and joker of his group. However, he had issues with the restrictive management of the band and had taken up alcohol and drugs. His behavior only worsened to the point of him leaving the band right before the tour. All this controversy, along with his excessive partying with stars like the Oasis members or George Michael, made everyone anxious to see more from him – especially since he announced plans for going solo. Later, in 2009, a more mature Robbie re-joined Take That and their album Progress became the second fastest-selling in the UK.

Solo Career

Williams launched his solo career by covering a song from his fellow George Michael and ranking as second in the UK Singles chart. After a short period, he became the best-selling artist in the UK, thanks to his 4th single, Angels. Furthermore, it was that song that made a name for Robbie internationally as well. Consequently, his second album I’ve Been Expecting You created, even more, hype in the rest of Europe than in the UK. It was certified 10x Platinum.

The “Supreme” Period

In 1999 he moved to America and signed with Capitol Records. One year later he released another immensely successful album – Sing When You’re Winning. It includes the emblematic and timeless single Supreme. In 2001 he covered the legendary song by Frank and Nancy Sinatra, Somethin’ Stupid, along with actress Nicole Kidman.  In 2002 he signed a £80 million contract with EMI and released his fifth album, Escapology. The lead single, Feel, became is most renowned song reaching top 10 in almost all Europe. The rest of the album, however, did not receive as much love. Two years later, the artist released a Greatest Hits album, which jumped directly to number one in UK charts. 2015 brought him an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Male.

Electro, Dance and Contemporary Style

In 2006 he tried new styles and influences, starting with the album Rudebox but got mixed reviews. He recovered, though, with Reality Killed the Video Star, in 2009. In 2010 he released another Greatest Hits album to celebrate 20 years of being a musician. 2011 came with a new contract – with Island Records. Robbie’s next album,  suggestively namedTake the Crown, went straight to number 1 in UK tops and lead song Candy became one of this highest-selling singles. In 2016 he traded Universal for Sony, producing his latest album The Heavy Entertainment Show under Columbia Records.
