Dequantes Devontay Lamar, known professionally as Rich Homie Quan, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter from Georgia. He’s music is influenced by dirty south rap. He is passionate about poetry, literature and creative writing.

Early Life

Lamar was born in 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia. During high school, he played baseball and aspired to go pro. He continued to do so in college, but then took up rapping and got a job at an airport. However, he got involved in illegal activities, mostly stealing, and ended up in prison for 15 months, until 2011. In 2003, another song from the previously mentioned mixtape, Type of Way, reached number 50 on the Hot 100 chart. Consequently, Still Goin’ In (Reloaded) received high praise from Rolling Stone. In 2003, his mixtape I Promise I’ll Never Stop Going reached 42 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and 25 on the Rap Chart. Two years later, Rich Homie Quan came out with a Platinum single, Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh), from If You Ever Think I Will Stop Goin’ In Ask Double R. The young rapper is currently working on his debut studio album, Rich As In Spirit.
