Rachel Platten is an American singer-songwriter who found success with the release of the single Fight Song.

Early Life

Rachel Ashley Platten was born in New York on May 20, 1981, but was raised in Massachusetts. At 5 she was taking piano lessons followed by guitar. She moved back to Greenwich, New York after graduating college with an international relations degree.

Career

In 2003 she released, independently, the R&B LP Trust in Me. While in Trinidad she was performing in front of large audiences. Rachel decided to move back to New York and have a try at a career in music. As she was working on her second album, Platten was taking every opportunity to perform. She opened for artists the Strokes, Regina Spektor, and Ziggy Marley. Her album was finally released in 2011, under Rock Ridge Music as Be Here. For the first time, Rachel entered the Billboard Adult Pop Songs at number 24 with 1,000 Ships. She supported the album with a tour that lasted 2 years. Platten was writing for TV, as a result, one of her songs was used as theme song for Pretty Little Liars. The song Smile was used for the 2014 film Annie. In 2015 she was signed to Columbia Records.

Success

She encountered success with the single Fight Song when it became a top 10 entry in numerous countries. Wildfire was her 3rd full-length LP that spawned two hit singles Stand by You and Hey Hey Hallelujah.
