R. City Biography

A.I. and Uptown AP are the American brothers and the hip-hop\pop duo R. City that is known for writing hits for acts like Rihana, Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande.

Early Life

Theron and Timothy Thomas were born in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. They received support from their parents as they tried out different genres of music. They left in 200 to pursue music in Miami. They went as 2Ekwip and had limited success on the nightlife scene. They moved back home in 2005.

Career Beginnings

They began writing for Akon and were eventually signed to his label Kon Live label as songwriters. The song The Rain landed on Akon’s album Konvicted. As of 2007, they had written songs for numerous acts like Nicole Scherzinger, and Mary J. Blige amongst many others. Wishing to release their own material, R. City finally issued the single Losing It plus the mixtape Put the F*cking Album Out. The anticipated album was promised by Kon Live but was always postponed. Nonetheless, they kept releasing other 15 mixtapes from 2008 until 2012.

Rebelution Records and Songwriting Success

In 2011 they finally left Kon Live as the label was unable to keep their promise. As a result, the brothers founded their own label Rebelution Records. Meanwhile, the duo was working and created hit singles for popular acts like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Miley Cyrus. In addition, they were contributors to Grammy-nominated albums by Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, and Jennifer Hudson. In 2015 they were signed to Dr. Luke’s label Kemosabe Records and R. City finally released their debut album #WhatDreamsAreMadeOf. The record was mostly about their experiences growing up in the Virgin Islands. Locked Away featuring  Adam Levine was a charting hit on Billboard’s Hot 100.
