Playboi Carti Biography

Playboi Carti (or Cash Carti) is an American rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. He’s mostly known for singles “Broke Boi” and “Fetti”. The New Yorker characterised his style by “bellowing bass, bright, wiry synthesisers, and slack-jawed ad-libs”.

Early Life & Career

Jordan Terrell Carter was born in 1996, in Atlanta, Georgia. He started rapping in 2012, as Sir Cartier but he changed it again when he reached the age of seventeen. In 2015, Playboi Carti gained recognition due to the song Broke Boy and began performing at various events with the likes of Lil Uzi Vert and ASAP Rocky. In 2016, he featured on ASAP Mob’s songs London Town and Telephone Calls.

Breakthrough

In 2017, Playboi Carti released his eponymous debut mixtape, which included collaborations with Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Rocky, and Leven Kali. The record spawned 2 singles, “Lookin” and “wokeuplikethis*, both with Lil Uzi Vert. The latter peaked at number 4 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. Additionally, the mixtape contains another charted song, “Magnolia”, which reached number 14 on the same chart. Overall, the self-titled mixtape peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart and received very good reviews.
