Plain White T’s is an American rock band established in 1997. Its members are Tom Higgenson, Dave Tirio, Tim Lopez, Mike Retondo and De’Mar Hamilton. They are mostly known for the hit single “Hey There Delilah” which got them two Grammy nominations and numerous other accolades.
Formation & Early Years
Plain White T’s formed in Lombard, as a trio led by Higgenson. They used to play gigs at local Chicago bars. Ulteriorly, the last member, Steve Mast, who played lead guitar, joined the group. After an auto accident, Higgenson went through a difficult healing process and began writing more meaningful songs. In 2000, their first album came out, titled “Come on Over”. Subsequently, Pain White T’s signed with Fearless Records, through which they released two more albums, “Stop” and ”All That We Needed”. The latter came after some line-up changes and spawned a moderately successful single, “Hate (I Really Don’t Like You)”.
“Every Second Counts” & Success
In 2006, the single “Hey There Delilah” generated from All That We Needed and was also included on the next album “Every Second Counts“. The 4x Platinum-certified song marked the band’s commercial breakthrough, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart and many others, additionally peaking at number 2 in the UK. Furthermore, it earned 2 Grammy nominations. Consequently, the album “Every Second Counts” was also a huge success, reaching top 10 in the US and number 2in the UK. In 2008, the band released “Big Bad World” and its two top 40 singles, “Natural Disaster” and the Platinum “1, 2, 3, 4” Moreover, two years later, “The Wonders of the Younger came out”, with its lead single “Rhythm of Love”, another chart and commercial win. In 2015, The Plain White T’s released their latest album, “American Nights” and, most recently, the 2017 single “Land of the Living“.
