Paul McCartney Biography

Born James Paul McCartney on June 18, 1942, the artist was encouraged by his father to get into music. After picking up his first guitar he started writing songs like “I Lost My Little Girl” and “When I’m Sixty-Four”.

The Beatles

After meeting Lennon and his band, Paul was invited to play with them. Soon after, Harrison joined and in 1960 the band started using the name “the Beatles”.

In 1962 they issued the hit “Love Me Do” with their fresh new drummer, Ringo Starr. The Beatles gained more and more popular, releasing 12 albums from 1963 to 1970. McCartney’s compositions for the British band are legendary hits such as “Yesterday”, “Hey Jude”, “Lady Madonna” and “Let It Be”.

Post Break Up

After the Beatles disbanded, Paul pursued a solo career.His solo debut album was titled McCartney (1970) and met with positive reviews from the fans. He went on to form a band called Wings that had tremendous success.

A British Legend

After Lennon’s death, Paul stopped took a break from touring. He came back announcing a world tour that got him playing in front of a stadium audience of 184,000 people. This performance meant a world record for him, for the largest paying stadium audience.

McCarney composed “Liverpool Oratorio” for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society, worked with Harrison and Star on The Beatles Anthology project and issued the album Kisses on the Bottom (2012).

Achievements

One of the best musicians of all-time, McCartney has received several awards, including 18 Grammy Awards and 22 NME Awards. He was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and into the Order Of Merit (Chile). He has been knighted and received the Gershwin Prize, being the first non-American to receive it.
