Omi Biography
Omar Samuel Pasley, known simply as Omi, is a Jamaican reggae singer. His most popular song is Cheerleader. The song was remixed by Felix Jaehn, which doubled its success. Furthermore, he released his debut album, Me 4 U, in 2015.
Career Beginnings
Omar began his career in Kingston, through the independent label Oufah. Shortly, he released his debut single Standing On All Threes. He then composed Cheerleader, but could only record and release it 4 years later, in 2012. It was released locally and received a low-budget video. It gained popularity in Hawaii and Dubai as well. For a while, Omi only delivered local hits in Jamaica. Most noteworthy, he released Take It Easy, Fireworks and Color of My Lips. The latter featured Busy Signal, a popular dancehall, ska, and reggae singer.
Me 4 U
In 2014, the president of Ultra Music noticed Omi’s hit Cheerleader. He offered to relaunch it as a dance song. Therefore, the tropical house version by Felix Jaehn appeared and conquered the European charts. In 2015, when Cheerleader topped the UK Singles Chart for a whole month, Omi broke a record, holding that position more than any other Jamaican artist ever. Additionally, the song also entered and then reached the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. Therefore, Omi became an internationally acclaimed singer. Later in 2015, he released the single Hula Hoop, another massive hit, which reached numerous charts around the globe. After that, his debut album, Me 4 U, came out and reached number one in 20 countries.
