Nicholas Jerry Jonas, simply known as Nick Jonas, is an American singer, songwriter, producer and actor. He first met fame in 2007, while in the boy band Jonas Brothers. The group gained massive recognition due to their appearance on the Disney Channel. Additionally, they starred in the successful teen flick musical Camp Rock (2008). The band’s lead single from their 3rd album, A Little Bit Longer, reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. As a solo artist, he only became famous after Jonas Brothers’ split. His 2014 self-titled album reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. He then reinvented his musical personality and promoted a more mature image. He released his latest album, Last Year Was Complicated, in 2016, to critical acclaim.
Childhood & Jonas Brothers
Nick Jonas was born in Texas and has 3 brothers. Two of them, Joe and Kevin, have also been part of the popular band Jonas Brothers. Nick began performing on Broadway when he was seven. In 2003 he released his first single Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer). He tried to release his first album internationally but with no success. However, Columbia Records liked Nick’s voice and signed him along with his brothers, thus creating Jonas Brothers. During 2005, the boys were featured on many Disney Channel related soundtracks. In 2016 they released their debut album, It’s About Time. It didn’t gain much attention and the group left their label, moving to Hollywood Records.
In 2007 they released a second album, which entered the top five of the Billboard 200. The lead single, S.O.S. became a massive hit. Between 2008 and 2010 Nick and his brothers starred in their own tv show Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream. Their third album, A Little Bit Longer, turned out to be their best-selling ever. During that time, Nick dated Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, which placed him even more in the spotlight. Even so, Jonas Brothers’ last album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, did not sell very well, thus the band’s upcoming hiatus and split. Before going solo, Nick formed Nick Jonas & the Administration, but the project did not work as he expected. In 2010, he starred in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
Maturity & Solo Career
In 2014, Nick Jonas worked as a musical and creative director on Demi Lovato‘s Neon Lights Tour, additionally performing a few songs with her. Furthermore, he released his second studio album, Nick Jonas. The first single failed to receive recognition but the second, Jealous, marked the singer’s debut on the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100. His album then immediately reached 6th place on the Billboard 200. He then starred as a guest mentor on The Voice. Moreso, Jonas had a recurring role as Boone Clemens in the popular comedy horror series Scream Queens.
In 2016 he released Last Year Was Complicated, creating huge hype. The lead single Close, featuring Tove Lo, was a major success and made it into several top charts. Recently, the artist also got credited for his song-writing skills. He received the Hal David Starlight Award in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Nick Jonas also starred in the drama film Goat (2016) alongside James Franco. His latest release is the single Bom Bidi Bom, featuring Nicky Minaj, featured on the soundtrack of Fifty Shades Darker.
