Childhood Dream
Born Meghan Elizabeth Trainor on December 22, 1993, in Nantucket, Massachusetts, the daughter of Kelly Anne and Gary Trainor, the middle child of three. Trainor began singing at age 6 and writing music at 11. As a child, she wanted to become a recording artist and began writing songs, exploring multiple music genres. By 12, along with some of her family member, she took part in “Island Fusion”. A family band which performed covers, soca music, and Trainor’s compositions. She sang with them for 4 years. She attended Nauset Regional High located in North Eastham, Massachusetts, where she studied guitar. Additionally, Trainor sang and played trumpet in a jazz band for three years. She thorough her guitar studies taking lessons from former NRBQ band member Johnny Spampinato.
Road to Success
Between the ages of 15 and 17, Trainor independently released three albums of material she wrote (which will later be dropped at her label’s request), recorded and performed herself. Through former NRBQ band member Al Anderson, she met publisher Carla Wallace who signed her for a publishing deal to Big Yellow Dog. She passed on a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, in order to pursue a career in songwriting instead. Due to her ability to write in a number of genres styles, she began working as a songwriter-for-hire, also releasing her own material. Throughout 2013, Meghan will continue to write and produce, concentrating especially on country music. She relocated to Nashville to work with producer Kevin Kadish. There she wrote songs for a number of acts, including Hunter Hayes, Rascal Flatts, R5 and Sabrina Carpenter.
“All About That Bass”
Along with Kadish, Meghan Trainor wrote “All About That Bass” back in 2013, which will prove to be her ticket to stardom. After many labels have rejected the song “All About That Bass”, it was eventually released on June 30, 2014, its music video quickly went viral. It reached number one on multiple charts and became one of the best-selling singles of all time. It featured on her debut extended play “Title” (2014) and on her debut album of the same name (2015). “Title” (debut album) was certified triple platinum and hit no. 1 on the charts. As a result, “Title” was the ninth best-selling album of 2015 worldwide. Other singles from the album included “Lips Are Movin“, “Dear Future Husband“, “Like I’m Gonna Lose You“, who did well on the charts as well. Meghan’s second studio album, “Thank You”, was released in May 2016 and it debuted at no. 3. The album’s first single, titled “No“, has so far peaked at the 3rd position on the US Billboard Hot 100, while her second single, titled “Me Too” reached the 13th. Her sound is widely dubbed as being a “Neo-Retro”, mixing Pop, Soul, Doo-wop and R&B. She is a multi-instrumentist.
