Matoma Biography

Tom Stræte Lagergren, known by the stage name Matoma, is a Norwegian DJ and record producer.

Early Life

Lagergren started playing the piano when he was little.  Therefore, he often includes piano in his compositions – along with guitar and flute, but also synth sounds. As a child, he actually won a talent show due to his piano skills but eventually grew tired of its classical sound. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Career

On his 23rd birthday, Matoma released the Free Fallin Tropical Mojito Remix (John Mayer Tribute) which got him quite some success and further jobs. In 2014 he remixed Marlon Roudette‘s When the Beat Drops. His first charted remix is Old Thing Back byThe Notorious B.I.G, which ranked number 2 in Norway and was praised in other countries as well. At that point, many record studios, including Big Beat Records, wanted to work with him. During that period, the DJ remixed Enrique Iglesias’ Bailando. Around the end of the year, Matoma remixed Business by Eminem. By 2015, he had a total of 33 songs published on Soundcloud. In 2016, the artist collaborated with pop rock band The Vamps, on heir single All Night.
