Massive Attack Biography

Massive Attack is currently enclosing the members Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall. Ex-members are Andy “Mushroom” Vowles and Adrian “Tricky Kid” Thaws.

Early Years

Their first song was titled “Any Love” and it was followed by a contract with Circa Records in 1990. Their debut album Blue Lines (1991) contained a bold fusion of genres. They collaborated with guest vocalists like Horace Andy and Shara Nelson.

Massive Attack recorded the song “Unfinished Sympathy” at Abbey Road studio. It was voted the 10th greatest song of all time in a poll by The Guardian. After the 1994 album Protection, Tricky left the group.

Breakthrough

They won a Q Award for Best Album with Mezzanine. The 1998 album sold almost 4 million copies and contained the hit single “Teardrop”. Working with artists like Sinead O’Connor and Mos Def, Massive Attack released 100th Window in 2003.

Heligoland was released in 2009. The album features guest vocals from Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval and Tunde Adebimpe.

Next Phase

Massive Attack issued an application called Fantom in 2016. Fantom let users hear parts of four new songs by remixing them in real-time, using phone’s location, movement, clock, heartbeat and camera. Songs like “The Spoils” and “Come Near Me” were promoted through this application.

2016 saw Massive Attack collaborating with artists like Mazzy Stars’ Hope Sandoval, Ghostpoet, Burial, Young Fathers and Azekel.
