Brian Hugh Warner, known professionally as Marilyn Manson, is a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and composer. Additionally, he picked up acting, painting and used to be a music journalist. He is known for his dark, eccentric look and personality. His nickname is a fusion between Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson.
Musical Debut
In 1989, Manson became the frontman of Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids. Ulteriorly, the band changed its name to, simply, Marilyn Manson. Furthermore, he pursued two side-projects, Satan on Fire and Mrs. Scabtree, formed with Jessicka (Jack Off Jill). In 1994, Manson & co. released their debut album, Portrait of an American Family, and began building a loyal fanbase. In 1995, their cover of Eurythmics’s Sweet Dreams spawned from the Smells Like Children EP, received critical acclaim.
Most Noteworthy
Moreover, during the next years, Marilyn Manson released its two most successful albums, Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. The latter generated the hit song, I Don’t Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me). Manson and his band then continued to gain more and more fame with singles like Tainted Love and Heart-Shaped Glasses. The group became an important element to the industrial rock/metal subculture. In 2015, they released their ninth album, The Pale Emperor, led by the single Cupid Carries A Gun.
Other Endeavours
In 1997, Manson made his cinematographical debut in David Lynch’s Lost Highway. Notably, Manson starred in the tv series Sons of Anarchy and Salem. In 2010, he collaborated again with Lynch, this time for the exhibition of his collection of paintings, Genealogies of Pain. This is also the title of one of Manson’s four books.
