Maluma Biography

Maluma is a Colombian singer-songwriter and record producer. He is one of the most famous Latin artists today with the most singles released in 2016.

Early Life

Born as Juan Luis Londoño Arias in January, 28, 1994 in Medellin, Colombia he was fond of soccer and used to sing as a child during his free time. After a few years, he decided to focus on a full musical career and at 15 began taking vocal lessons.

Professional Debut

In 2010, he began building a career in music, releasing his first single “Farandulera” which became a local hit. The Sony subsidiary label, Sony Music Colombia signed him as a singer for a record deal and album release. His first studio album “Magia” was released in 2012. He revealed a video for the single “Obsesión” which garnered over 150 million YouTube views. His singles “Miss Independent” and “Pasarla Bien” did well on the national Colombian charts, reaching top 3. “La Temperatura”, a duet with singer Eli Palacios broke into the US Latin Billboard charts. Starting 2013 Maluma was nominated for an MTV Europe Music Award (Best Latin America Central Act) and for a Latin Grammy (Best New Artist).

“The Voice Kids” and Breakthrough

He participated as a mentor and coach to the Columbian version of “The Voice Kids” winning the competition in 2014. In 2015 he released a re-issue of past work as “PB.DB. The Mixtape”. The material was certified diamond in his country and he was the first urban artist to achieve that. In 2015 he released a re-issue of past work as “PB.DB. The Mixtape”. He had a second appearance as a judge on “The Voice Kids” the same year. “Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy”, the second album was one of his most successful albums as it reached number 1 on the Latin Billboard charts.
