Maleek Berry Biography
Maleek Shoyebi, known professionally as Maleek Berry, is a British-Nigerian producer and hip-hop artist. In the future, he hopes to “Create timeless music that will hopefully last longer than this generation“.
Early Years
Maleek grew up with the influences of Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, Jodeci and Michael Jackson. At the age of 14, he decided to pursue a music career. He formed a trio called Fruity Loops, which only lasted 2 years. Furthermore, he taught himself to play the piano and gained a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. After that, he met a rapper from North London, called IKES, and the two collaborated for a while.
As a Producer
He made his breakthrough as a producer 2012 and, two years later he received “Music Producer of the Year” nomination at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He then landed a production contract with Starboy Entertainment. Therefore, he collaborated with many uprising artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Wale, Fuse ODG, Runtown and Iyanya. Notably, he produced the Nigerian hit, Carolina, by Sauce Kid and Davido.
As a Singer/Rapper
While focussing on production, Maleek also pursued a singing/rapping career in 2013. Until 2015, he released five songs which featured his good friend Wizkid. In 2016 he earned recognition due to the single Kontrol, which gained almost 21 million views on Youtube. Furthermore, he released his debut EP, Last Daze Of Summer, which spawned the 2017 singles Eko Miami and 4 Me.
