LP Biography

Laura Pergolizzi, known by the stage name LP, is an American pop singer and songwriter. Though she has been in the music industry for a long time, it was just two years ago when she really gained recognition. First, her song Muddy Waters appeared in the season finale of popular tv series Orange is The New Black, marking a very dramatic moment. Subsequently, lead single Lost on You from the homonymous album got certified 3x Platinum. It reached the top in various European charts and was massively broadcasted. Moreover, the song reached the Shazam Hall Of Fame.

Early Years

The early years of Laura’s career are pretty much uneventful. Her first albums,  Heart-Shaped Scar (2001) and Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol (2004), went almost unnoticed, in spite of the positive critic reviews. However, in 2006, her attendance at the South by Southwest conference created a big fuss between major labels who wanted her. In 2009, her song Damage is Done was featured on MTV’s The Hills. LP also wrote songs for The Hills star Heidi Montag.

In 2001, she wrote the song Cheers for Rihanna. After a couple more song-writing projects, LP released the EP Into the Wild: Live at EastWest Studios. Consequently, Laura performed at major festivals such as Lollapalooza. In May 2012, Vogue magazine declared Laura as Artist of the Week. Over the course of two years, she prepared her next album, Forever for Now (2014)Only the third single, Tokyo Sunrise, made an international impact. From there, things only got better.

Lost on Her

2016 was the year of LP’s sudden ascension to fame. The first single from her latest album, Muddy Waters, was unarguably the best fit for Orange Is The New Black’s heartbreaking season finale. The next single, Lost on You,  a piece of equally overflowing emotion as its predecessor, made LP a huge name in contemporary pop music. The song was certified Platinum in 4 countries. Naturally, the third and latest single, Other People, was instantly praised and was featured in several European top charts. Another popular song from the album is Tightrope.

Laura’s inspiration comes from personal and relational issues. Actually, the awe of her latest album came from all the sorrow she went through as a struggling artist. After her major success with Lost on You, Laura felt relieved that it wasn’t all for nothing. During a recent interview, LP talked about her androgynous look. She explained that she simply wants to be as natural on the outside as she is on the inside. Her biggest fear is not living life to its fullest. She loves whistling, as proven by many of her songs, and… sunglasses!

Laura’s motto is: “The next song will definitely be better!”
