A Los Angeles-based electro-rap duo, LMFAO made hits like Party Rock Anthem and Sexy and I Know It.
Early Formation
The duo consisted of producers and DJs Redfoo and Sky Blu. They started in 2006, gained a good local reputation, some radio play, and several shows. They were introduced by will.i.am to Interscope’s CEO Jimmy Iovine who signed them to his label.
Career Beginnings
I’m in Miami Bitch was the first single which peaked on the charts of several countries. Party Rock EP was released as their debut project in 2008 and the full album in 2009. The album was number 33 on Billboard 200. After an American tour, they released the singles La La La and Shots featuring Lil Jon. The songs were also featured on reality shows like the Jersey Shore and Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami. LMFAO‘s collaboration with David Guetta spawned the international top 10 hit Gettin’ Over You.
Breakthrough
The next release would prove to be iconic. The anthemic single 2011 Party Rock Anthem was a worldwide success, peaking at the top in ten countries. The LP Sorry for Party Rocking was revealed the same year. Sexy and I Know It was another international number 1 hit. The duo embarked on an Asain tour and focused on their Party Rock clothing line.
Hiatus
In 2012 they joined Madonna at the Super Bowl XLVI halftime performance. After a few months, LMFAO announced that they were taking an indefinite break to focuse on their own careers, as individuals.
