Little Big Town Biography

Little Big Town is one of the most known country music groups in America. They founded the band in 1998 and since then, they’ve been climbing music charts.

Starting a Band

At first a Christian vocal group singer, Karen Fairchild got together with Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Philip Sweet and created Little Big Town. Under the label Monument Records Nashville, they released their first album, Little Big Town. The singles “Don’t Waste My Time” and “Everything Changes” reached moderate places on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. After Westbrook’s father died and two other members divorced their lovers, the band also quit the Monument Records label.

Little Big Town Meets Fame

Freshly signed to Equity Music Group label, the band released their second album, The Road to Here. One of its singles, Bring it on home became a top hit on Hot Country Songs. Their third album was titled A Place to Land and it was a moderate success. The next albums, The Reason Why and Tornado started to catch the attention of the public and their fan base increased. Tornado‘s lead single, “Pontoon” went straight to No.1 hit on Hot Country Songs.

After their sixth studio album, Pain Killer, the band was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry and they were inducted by Vince Gill. One of the singles from Pain Killer, “Girl Crush” got pulled by some radio stations because of its lyrics. It was thought that the song’s theme was lesbianism, but Fairchild declared: “That’s just shocking to me, the close-mindedness of that, when that’s just not the song was about...But what if it were? It’s just a greater issue of listening to a song for what it is.” “Girl Crush” became number one on the Billboard charts.

On June 10, 2016, they released Wanderlust, an album with eight songs produced by rapper Pharrell Williams.

Little Big Town has won Academy of Country Music Awards, American Country Awards, Grammy Awards, and countless others. The band also has several nominations.
