Early Life
Lecrae Devaughn Moore was born in Houston, Texas on October 9, 1979, but was raised in Denver, Colorado, and San Diego. At 19 he decided to dedicate his life to his Christian belief. Lecrae was working in ministerial services and was president at ReachLife Ministries.
Career and Breakthrough
Lecrae was passionate about rap, so he decided to integrate his faith with music. He co-founded Reach Records with Ben Washer and released his debut album Real Talk in 2005. The acclaimed After the Music Stops was his breakthrough LP, debuting at number 1 on Christian and R&B\Hip-Hop charts. The following 2 albums were just as successful as both the 2008 Rebel and the 2010 Rehab were number ones. Rehab was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album, the 2011 sequel Rehab: The Overdose got him 2 Dove awards.
Gravity and Anomaly
Lecrae released the star-studded Gravity LP which quickly turned into the best-selling Christian album, topping digital charts and winning him his first Grammy award for Best Gospel Album. No other rapper managed to win the award for gospel before. In 2014, however, he issued an even bigger success with Anomaly, which not only did it top the gospel charts but the overall charts also. The album is probably him most critically acclaimed album to date. In order to expand his own label, he signed to Columbia Records in 2016. Can’t Stop Me Now (Destination) was the first single released from his upcoming album. Blessings followed with a collab from Ty Dolla $ign.
