LCD Soundsystem Biography

LCD Soundsystem is a Brooklyn-based American rock band, fronted by James Murphy and one of the leaders in the millennial wave of punk-house.

Early Formation

Created by frontman and musician James Murphy, LCD Soundsystem found its debut in 2002. Programmer and producer Tim Goldsworthy struck a friendly relationship with Murphy and started releasing music as a duo. Losing My Edge was the first single released under their own label, DFA Records.

Career Beginnings

The act was becoming an underground dance favorite with tracks like Give It UpYeah and Movement. LCD’s self-titled debut album was released in 2005 to rave reviews. Soon enough high profile celebrities like Britney Spears and Janet Jackson requested collaborations. The composition 45:33 was released as part of Nike’s promotion of the Original Run series. The second studio album Sound of Silver was issued in 2007.

Success and Split

Sound of Silver included Murphy’s best songwriting skill, thus earning LCD a Top 50 spot on Billboard 200. This Is Happening was released in 2010 with Drunk Girls as its lead single. Another critically acclaimed LP, LCD supported it with a tour for the rest of the year. During this period Murphy announced the disbandment of the group and prepared a last show at the Madison Square Garden in New York. The show was recorded and released in 2012 as The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden.

Reunion

After much speculation and denial, LCD was reunited with the release of holiday track Christmas Will Break Your Heart. After LCD was confirmed as the headliner of the Coachella Festival, the band was officially reunited in 2016. The whole year was filled with live performances and other festivals. The new album release date was scrapped a few times and is due for release sometime in the summer of 2017.
