Killswitch Engage is an American metalcore band formed in 1999. The current band members are vocalist Jesse Leach, guitarists Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz, bassist Mike D’Antonio, and drummer Justin Foley. The group has released seven albums and a DVD and has performed at numerous high-profile festivals.
Early Years & Breakthrough
Killswitch Engage formed after the break-up of two other metalcore bands, Overcast and Aftershock. The name was inspired by an episode of The X-Files, called “Kill Switch”. The band started its musical journey by opening for In Flames, in November 1999. In 2000 they released their self-titled debut album, a moderate success. Additionally, it led to a contract with Roadrunner Records, which truly boosted Killswitch Engage’s recognition.
Success
In 2002 the band released “Alive of Just Breathing”, their second album, which mostly gained popularity in the UK but spawned a successful single, “My Last Serenade”. Two years later, Killswitch Engage came out with the acclaimed album “The End of Heartache”, peaking at number 21 in the US. The title single featured in the movie Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Furthermore, the record earned a Grammy nomination.
In 2006, the metalcore band released an equally popular, Gold-certified album, “As Daylight Dies”. It spawned 3 singles, “My Curse”, “The Arms of Sorrow” and the cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver”. In 2009’s and 2013’s albums, “Killswitch Engage” and “Disarm the Descent”, both reached number 7 on the Billboard 200. Moreover, the latter spawned the well-known single “In Due Time” and another popular single “Always”. With their latest album, “Incarnate”, the group reached top 10 in numerous countries, notably number 6 in the US.
