James Blake Biography

London-based producer and singer-songwriter James Blake is a Grammy-nominated dub-step and R&B artist.

Early Life

James Blake Litherland was born in Enfield, London on 26 September 1988. He was classically trained as a child and later received a degree in Popular Music.

Career Beginnings and Success

Air & Lack Thereof project was released on the Hemlock label. In 2010 he had a few successful releases The Bells Sketch, CMYK, and Klavierwerke. James‘ debut album was released as James Blake to great reviews and was eventually nominated for a Mercury Prize. The more structured R&B mixtapes were issued later as Enough Thunder and Love What Happened Here. During 2012 Blake spent his time writing his second full-length album Overgrown which was revealed the following year. The album was a success as it won a Mercury Prize and the single Retrograde was nominated for an Ivor Novello Best Contemporary Song.

More Music

In 2016 he had a feature on Beyonce’s album Lemonade on the track Forward and co-wrote the Pray You Catch Me opening track. The Colour in Anything LP was released the same year.
