J Alvarez is a Puerto Rican reggaeton artist who has released 5 albums and 5 mixtapes from 2008 onward.

Early Life

Javid David Álvarez Fernández was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on December 13, 1983, to Dominican parents. As a 12-year-old, he would perform in front of teachers and friends. He enjoyed the reggaeton genre the most and admired Tego Calderon.

Career Beginnings

Alvarez’s cousin introduced him to DJ Nelson with whom he began to collaborate. In 2009, he was signed to Flow Music and released his debut album El Dueño Del Sistema.

Success

In 2010 followed the LP Otro Nivel De Musica. The single La Pregunta peaked at number 1 in most Latin America, on the first positions in the US and Puerto Rico and on Billboard’s top 20 Latin Rhythm chart. The album was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Imperio Nazza: J Alvarez Edition the mixtape was released in 2012 and was a collaboration between him and producers  Musicólogo & Menes. The project spawned the Se Acabo El Amor hit. In 2013 he was the executive producer of his company On Top Of The World Music. The following year he issued his 3rd album De Camino Pa La Cima as a CD and separately in digital format. Alvarez released the single Una Cita Remix along with Alkilados, El Roockie, and Nicky Jam. The collaboration was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Performance. In 2016 he released the live album J Alvarez Desde Puerto Rico Live.
