Incubus Biography

Incubus is a nu-metal band formed in Calabasas, California, in 1991. They rose to fame in 1999, due to the release of Make Yourself, which spawned the band’s first number 1 hit Drive. Since then, the band earned numerous platinum certifications and has sold more than 23 million records. Most recently, they released their eighth album, titled suggestively 8, in April 2017.

Early Years & Breakthrough

During the early period of their existence, Incubus had a funk-influenced sound. Gradually, their music became more complex and featured thrash, rap, post-grunge elements. In 1995, Incubus shocked by adding a hip-hop DJ to the classic rock band mix. They began gaining success after signing with the label Epic/Immortal. After the Enjoy Incubus EP and their debut major-label album S.C.I.E.N.C.E,  the band released double-platinum Make Yourself (1999), thus entering the mainstream world.

Continuous Success

Following up on that success, Incubus pushed forward with 2001’s Morning View and  2004’s A Crow Left of the Murder. Both albums peaked at number 2 in the US and went Platinum. Notably, the latter spawned the band’s second number 1 hit, Megalomaniac. Furthermore, in 2006 the metal band topped the albums chart with Light Grenades. The record generated 2 number 1 singles, Anna Molly and Love Hurts. In 2011, they returned with If Not Now, When?, which sold well but received mix reviews.
