Grace Biography

Grace is an Australian singer-songwriter, mostly known for her cover of Lesley Gore’s 1963 song “You Don’t Own Me“, featuring rapper G-Eazy. The single gained major exposure due to being featured in the trailer for the blockbuster movie Suicide Squad (2016).

Early Life & Career

Grace Sewell was born in Brisbane, Australia. She grew up in an artistic household, listening to artists such as Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse. Her brother, Conrad Sewell, is also a musician, famous for featuring Kygo’s “Firestone” and his solo number 1 hit “Start Again”. Grace gave an astonishing performance of Jessie J’s “Do It Like a Dude” on Dropout Live UK. Consequently, she signed with Regime Music Societe and RCA Records.

Breakthrough

In spring 2015, Grace released “You Don’t Own Me”, a collaboration with G-Eazy, as a tribute to Lesley Gore. The single topped the Australian chart and reached number 57 on the US Hot 100. It was used in various promos, most noteworthy the trailer for Suicide Squad. Shortly, Grace released her debut EP, titled “Memo”, with two more singles, “Dirty Harry” and “Boyfriend Jeans”.

Additionally, Grace collaborated with G-Eazy again, this time on the track “Don’t Let Me Go” from his album “When It’s Dark Out“. In 2016 her own full-length album, “FMA” (Forgive My Attitude), came out, spawning another single, “Hell of a Girl”. In 2017, the Australian singer featured on DJ Cassidy’s “Honor”, along with Lil Yachty.
