Glen Campbell Biography

Born Glen Travis Campbell on 22 April 1936, he is known for his tremendous contributions to the music and entertainment scenes. He picked up the guitar at an early age, helped by his uncle.

Early Years

Glen tried his luck at first with different bands such as the Western Wranglers, The Champs and The Gee Cees. His first solo single reached a minimum height of success, but the follow-ups disappointed. Campbell toured with The Beach Boys and Ricky Nelson in ’65-’66.

Legend

The breakthrough came with the solo album Burning Bridges. He won four Grammy Awards for performances of two singles from this album. Soon after he got his own TV show called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. He continued to appear on television even after his series ended.

Glen’s single “Rhinestone Cowboy” (1975) was one of his biggest hits, selling over 2 million copies. Further successful singles were “Southern Nights” and “Country Boy (You Got Your Feet in L.A.).” After several albums, singles and achievements, Campbell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Among his greatest end-of-a-career works are the albums Meet Glen Campbell (2008) and Ghost on the Canvas (2010). After his last tour, he started recording what will become his last album. Adios is set to be released on June 9, 2017.
